So, years ago Jenny and I were shooting at a place in American Fork called the Northampton House. After the ceremony, Jenny decided to go to some random place and get us some food. She is a shake-o-holic and she claims the smaller the joint, the better the shakes. She brought me some food back after the shoot and our lives have never been the same.
The burger joint...? JCWs.
This is the home to my favorite burger: The Bleu Bacon Burger. The rings are fantastic. The sauces are divine. The shakes (per Jenny) are wonderful. And lastly, never take food advice from a skinny person, this place is the real deal. But sadly, it is far away and we don't get down there for dinner often. It is, however, worth the drive.
Jump ahead.
On Tuesday, I was shooting a bridal at Thanksgiving Point and, as I was passing the Maverick right off the freeway exit, I saw the sign:
GLORY... Oh happy day! There was a new, OPEN, JCWs! Only 15 minutes from my house! Today, we packed up the car and went to the new, happiest place on earth. The food was awesome, I saw the manager and he recognized me, I shook his hand and blessed him, and then we all enjoyed a terrific meal.
Alex likes the place for different reasons...
Do you have a favorite place to eat?
We have had a long week of weddings. 8 to be exact. Today we had 2, but I was done at 5 and Jenny had a reception downtown. So, we decided to go downtown as well! The boys know what I do for a living, but I don't think they really KNOW. So, I took them on their own "Salt Lake Idol" shoot where they were the stars! We went to a really cool downtown location where I sometimes take brides and the boys did their thing! I let them lead the way, do what they wanted (with small input from me), and in the end, we got some great shots! Check it out!
So I have been trying to lose weight. For the record, I am down about 35 pounds. Go me. Since the beginning of the year, I have started running again and I have been really enjoying it. When I exercise, I also feel like eating better, which helps me want to exercise more. It is a nice, cyclical process. But to the contrary, when I eat badly, I don't feel like exercising, and the next thing you know, I am back to just being large and out of shape. It is a constant battle. If only I could eat badly and exercise. Or maybe just be skinny. yeah...
So every now and then, I surprise Alex by showing up during his lunch and I take him out to eat wherever he wants to go. It is a fun, little date we enjoy where we get to talk man to man. He tells me about his friends, his school work, BYU sports, certain girls that are catching his eye, who we want to win Idol (go David A.!), along with many other things. It is great fun. On Thursday, we shared such an experience.
There is just one problem.
He always chooses the one restaurant where I have no control. The diet goes right out the window. All will power which I possess regarding eating healthy is sucked from my very being. I have no control...
The Training Table.
This is my diet kryptonite. If you go there, just order #16 (bleu bacon burger), combo meal, no tomato, cheese fries, Diet Coke, dipping sauce, and a side of bleu cheese dressing.
You will be very happy... but your diet won't share the euphoria.
This here is my handy dandy Pampered Chef chopper thingey. I was using it to make dinner last night and I thought "what if someone doesn't have one of these? What if someone is still chopping all their veggies and meat and everything by hand? That would be awful!"
So random as it is, I wanted to share my most-used cooking item today. My chopper thingey. It can chop everything from veggies to chicken to nuts and it is AWESOME! Seriously, I use this bad boy every day. So there you are. My favorite. Oh, and this is how I usually see it:
In my dishwasher. If you don't have one... I am so sorry. You should immediately stop reading this blog, find someone who sells Pampered Chef stuff and order one. You won't regret it. I promise. No, really, you should believe me. Stop reading and go get one. Then you can blog about cool stuff like cooking helpers...
My only problem is when I get home I start to think. Did I talk too much? Did I ask so and so about themselves? Was that one thing I said rude? Did I hurt her feelings? Should I call and apologize? On and on.
I seriously agonize after these things. I love seeing my friends and hanging, but I worry about everything I said and did after.
Maybe this comes from some part of my childhood or high school years. I think I was a nerd. Not sure, but I could definitely have been.
Or maybe the blue part of my personality worries way too much about what other people think.
Or, maybe I have deep psychological issues that require medication.
So there are my confessions. A glimpse into my inner psyche for all to read online.
I feel better already.
Oh yeah, and for anyone who wasn't sure, this wasn't a blog from Matt.
