So you know how you have friends that have all kinds of different talents? Kelly Anne Sampson is my Martha Stewart friend. Talk about intimidating.
If you are lucky enough to be invited to her house for dinner, here is what to expect: First, you drive up to this immaculate front yard with amazing flowers and bushes (we're envisioning summer here). As you walk up to the door you notice a small bench among the greenery along with some wooden, hand-painted little accents. You take a deep breath and knock. Kelly David (Kelly Anne's husband, the same first name thing is somewhat confusing at first) answers the door and sweeps you inside. Yep, it's as bad as you feared. The house inside is as beautiful as the front yard. Amazing paintings, darling photos, everything you see down to the smallest detail is totally out of some magazine. Then you see the kids. She really has 3 small boys and has a super cute, super clean house? Self-esteem drops 2 more notches.
So maybe she'll blow it at dinner you think. That would humanize her. Better try wishing for something else. Dinner is phenomenal. Not only can Kelly follow a recipe; she can improvise, improve and just plain make things up that are delectable. Dinner is served on cute little matching plates onto a table with a flower centerpiece. Note this centerpiece is not from Flower Patch (hey, I could do that), but these flowers have been lovingly nurtured in Kelly's yard and cut today for this occasion. And by the way, the fresh herbs she used to make that delicious meal in front of you, she grew those as well.
After a tasty meal filled with sparkling conversation, Kelly is of course, hilarious, you retire to the ajoining living room. Now her husband shows you the book she has written and taken all the photos for from her own garden. Are you serious? you think, she writes too? Not only this, but she writes very well. Start reading her blog and you may be hooked permanently; even my husband is.
Intimidated yet? I thought so. I wonder if Martha would be...

I am not worthy of such praise!
I am both flattered and totally embarrassed.
Thank you for your kind words. Let's do a post on all the things I suck at next!
For balance.
Kelly David is kind-of cool, right? A little? Anyone, anyone.....
Kelly David, can't you just be happy being the wind
beneath her wings?
Sounds like we could all use some tips from this friend.
But, Jenny, you are doing quite well yourself. Look out! You are an inspiration to us!
