I would like to think I am just big boned...
For those of you know me, you are aware that I am a big dude. I am 6'4" and have been as large as 350lbs. Fortunately, I am at a much lower weight now, but weight control has always been a struggle.
Alex and I are reading the Harry Potter series, and in book 4, Mad Eye Moody tells Harry that he must always be on guard against Voldemort, or he must practice "Constant Vigilance" lest he be overcome by the Dark Lord. Well, being overweight is my own personal Lord Voldemort, and unless I practice "Constant Vigilance" 350 lbs is only a few months away. I have to eat right and exercise regularly.
So, in order to combat being large, I started running three months ago. Some say that a guy my size shouldn't be running, but whatever... Nothing makes me feel better. I run at least 2-3 miles a day, 5 days a week. On Saturday, I reached a major benchmark. I ran 5 miles. I ran slow. It wasn't pretty. But I ran 5 miles and I didn't stop.
Mission Accomplished.
I have run one 10k and that was two summers ago. I will run my next in July. Anyone want to come along?
Congratulations! I don't run any miles...ever! You're so much better than me!! Kristen
In the words of Back to the Future 3 "Run for Fun what the Hell kind of fun is that!" Hee Hee- good for you though if it makes you feel good- me not so much :)
Tell me when and where and I'll be there!
I had a friend in college that somehow talked me into training for a marathon. I didn't end up running the marathon for various reasons. I think the farthest I ever ended up running was 15 miles. When I look back on it I don't know how I did it, but I do remember feeling very good and very accomplished so I think it is great that you are doing it and sticking with it. I hated running when I started but ended up enjoying it. Don't mention this race to my dad--he thinks he can run/walk a marathon without even training--crazy man!
TJ and I run a 5k race a month during the racing season. Mostly the ones that have the raffles afterward where you can win a ipod and other stuff. We might take you up on that offer of the 10k.
Congrats! I do good to just do my 2-3 miles a day anymore. I used to run 4 but haven't in a while. Maybe I will start up. It is almost summer and time for bathing suits (Ugh). But running is so relaxing to me. Is it to you? I love it!
If I had the discipline it takes to train, I'd be there. But way to go! I love to run, but I am not a long distance runner. And in the cold? Forget it. I'm proud of you.
