When you are a member of my church (and most other churches as well), you are usually given a calling, or an assignment. I have had quite a few callings over the years. Some I have LOVED, others not so much. I've definitely learned something from each of them.
My friends and I have discussed callings as we all rotate from one to another, so I thought an interesting blog would be favorite and least favorite callings.
Favorite Calling
My favorite calling would definitely be Primary presidency. I am currently serving in my 4th presidency and man do I love it. We keep the gospel simple and the kids are so great. No standing in front of a room of adults wishing someone would say something, the kids have lots of great comments. "Yes, that is so fun your grandma got a new cat", "oh, I love going to get new shoes too", "I wish I could play with my cousins all day on Saturday"... The comments don't always go with the topic, but hey, I know plenty of adults who have a hard time with that.
Least Favorite Calling
I would have to say my least favorite calling would have to be Enrichment Leader. I was the Enrichment leader back in the day when we had it every month. Seriously, planning a party that all of the women in my ward would find enlightening and uplifting every month only to have five sisters show up (usually the same five every month), no thanks. By the way, I do make a concentrated effort to go every month now.
I have never had a calling in the Young Women, but I dread the day. I know plenty of you love it, but man, the hormones... the crying... the boy troubles... I don't know if I could handle that. Which is why, by the way, I won't be surprised when the Bishop calls someday to whisk me away from my beloved Primary to a "new growing experience" in the Young Womens. Sigh.
What is your favorite/least favorite "service opportunity"?
Hey, Jenny! I'm sure you would make a splendid Primary, YW, or RS president! Loved the post on callings! I may do one of those, too. I could write about the four (count them...) times I have had to give the priesthood lesson on "Living Joyfully With Thy Wife..." But as I always say, "those who can, do, and those who can't, teach." (NO offense to teachers...it's a whole different ballgame.) Mark
I am so glad you are in the primary with me. It is so fun to see you each week and discuss the struggles and joys of motherhood. I cant think of a place I would rather be.
I am in the primary presidency too. I love it. We are going on our 3rd year as a presidency and we feel like we are finally getting it right. I love the theme this year - I am a Child of God. What a simple theme and I am constantly amazed at how much these little ones know. Their parents are doing a great job! That one is my favorite because it is what I am doing now. My least favorite I would have to agree is on the enrichment committee.
This was nice to read because I actually just got put in our primary presidency two weeks ago and it is new for me, but so far so good. I am learning alot and I agree with your comment that they always have something to say, and you never know what!!
I am worried I am going to be doomed to primary forever... I have taught both the five-year-olds and nine-year-olds. It's fun sometimes, but I don't know... trying to get the kids to listen is a huge chore for me!
I loved being a missionary. That was hands down my favorite calling!
I liked Young Womens. I am actually afraid of a primary calling. I think I'm better with teens.
Maybe because mentally I still am one.
